Bio Rainer Sonnenberg

Study of Biology in Bielefeld from 1992 -1996.

Since 1997 research on African fishes in the Zoologisches

Forschungsmusem Alexander Koenig in Bonn.

Between 2004 and 2009 several projects on DNA barcoding

approaches at the University of Cologne and the Max-

Planck-Institute in Plön. Collection travels to Cameroon

(2000, 2001) and Gabon (2002). Synthesis grants for study

visits to the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tervuren) and

the National History Museum (London) in 2008.

Research interests: Evolution, phylogeography, taxonomy, and diversity of African freshwater fishes.

Research focus: African killifishes (Nothobranchiidae, Poeciliidae), and Characiformes (Distichodontidae).
