Bio Frederic Schedel

Frederic Schedel was born 1989. He studied biology (Bachelor: 2009-2011) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universtiy of Munich and finished with his Master of Science degree (Munich Graduate School for Evolutionary Genomics, Ecology and Systematics) in 2014. He is now working on his PhD project at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology within the frame work of a large international project. This project integrates ichthyology and landscape geology in order to reconstruct the landscape evolution of South Central Africa, his part concentrating on the genomic record and diversity of haplochromine and tilapiine cichlids.
Since his bachelor thesis his main focus are riverine cichlids of central and eastern Africa especially “Orthochromis-like” fishes. Moreover, he is interested in the deepwater fauna of Lake Tanganyika. In 2014 he won the cichlid award of the German Cichlid Association (DCG) for the investigation of taxonomic status of Hemibates cf. stenosoma Zambia”.
During the last three years he has been on several ichthyological expeditions to Africa: Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and Zambia. While collecting for the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology he likes to take pictures of all kind of fish and their habitats.
